Who we are
BeyondHair
We are a youth-driven platform dedicated to making hair care approachable, relatable, and relevant for teens. We’re a growing community of young people who believe that hair deserves the same attention as skincare, braces, or mental health, because it all connects.
Here, you’ll find practical tips, real stories, and trusted resources to help you understand your hair and care for it in ways that work for you. Whether you’re figuring out your first routine, navigating hair loss, or just want to feel more confident, we’re here to support the journey.
We’re not about perfection. We’re about progress, learning, and self-respect—whatever your hair story looks like.
Our Mission
At Beyond Hair, our mission is to educate, empower, and embrace.
01.
Educate
Educate teens on how to take care of their hair in simple, factual, and culturally inclusive ways.
02.
Empower
Empower the next generation to feel confident, whether they have braids, afros, bald spots, or anything in between.
03.
Embrace
Embrace all the journeys of our hair by fostering acceptance, promoting mental well-being, and adopting healthy habits that last a lifetime.
We believe that learning to care for your hair is part of learning to care for yourself. Through our website, we aim to make hair education accessible, positive, and judgment-free.
Because hair—or the lack of it—should never define your worth.
About Us
About the Founder
Hi, my name is Johnson Liu. I grew up in New Zealand and China. I’m the founder of Beyond Hair, and I started this project because I’ve seen firsthand how hair can impact someone’s confidence and mental well-being.
My inspiration came from watching my dad go through hair loss. He once told me he wished he had learned how to take care of his hair earlier, not just physically, but emotionally, too. His experience made me realize how little we talk about hair health, especially before it becomes a problem.
At school, I also noticed something surprising: many of my friends wear braces, use skincare routines, and care about their health, but barely anyone takes care of their hair. It’s often overlooked, even though it’s such a visible part of who we are.
So I started Beyond Hair to learn, share, and create a space where teens can understand the basics of hair care, build healthy habits early, and feel good about themselves, with hair, without it, and beyond.
This isn’t just about looks. It’s about self-respect, mental wellness, and owning your story—one strand at a time.
